Taxis
Taxis can be hailed in the road, provided the green light on top of the vehicle is illuminated,
or picked up in the Taxi Ranks which are dotted around the town. The cabs are only allowed to
take a maximum of four passengers.
They can also be booked by phoning 971 65 70 58 - you will however pay a surcharge for telephoning
a taxi in advance.
Most of the taxi drivers speak English and it is advisable to ask the approximate fare before setting
off. As the cabs run on meters, as in the UK and Ireland, the fares quoted by them, and in the list below,
are approximate guides only.
Remember, the cost increases between 9pm and 6am, and on Sundays and Fiesta days (and there are loads of
them in Mallorca!). Also if you have an excessive amount of suitcases, you pay a supplement per case.
HOWEVER, IF YOU GET IN THE CAB AND THE DRIVER ADDS A "SUPLEMENTOS" TO THE METER, ASK HIM WHAT IT WAS FOR.
WE WERE CHARGED 75 CENTIMOS JUST BECAUSE 'WE FLAGGED THE CAB DOWN ON THE ROAD'. THIS SUPPLEMENT IS TOTALLY
ILLEGAL AND IF HE REFUSES TO WITHDRAW THIS SUPPLEMENT THEN MAKE A NOTE OF HIS CAB NUMBER (ON THE DRIVER AND
PASSENGER DOOR) AND TELEPHONE THE CAB COMPANY AS ABOVE - THEY WILL BE SYMPATHETIC.
If you catch a taxi from Palma expect to pay a bit more. Palma taxis are slightly dearer than local ones -
also there is a surcharge from the airport and seaport area. The prices given below are from the rank in the
centre of town and so may vary if you take a taxi from another part of the resort.
